I found this movie to be entertaining.
It’s exactly what I thought it would be walking in. Sort of an Aladdin meets Indiana Jones, meets Pirates of the Caribbean.
Jake did a fine enough job as Dastan, Gemma being hailed as the new Megan Fox, is both way more beautiful and had better acting prowess than Megan (as I stated in my summer preview), and Alfred Molina was very funny and charming in the movie as well.
If you walk in thinking you’ll get another Pirates of the Caribbean movie, simply because it’s the same team that brought us that franchise. You won’t be disappointed. They are of the same quality film if you ask me, if you like one more than the other it’s simply because of the characters, story and the world created. But this movie holds its own if you ask me.
With that being said, I should say I like the Pirates franchise more, but that has nothing to do with quality, and everything to do with character and scope. I’m a Caribbean guy, I love the whole Caribbean vibe that Pirates brought to the table, and the colorful characters, and the enchantment, curses, treasure. It simply struck a chord with me due to those elements.
But my statement stands, Prince of Persia did a fine job, and I do hope to a sequel. It deserves one, as this is clearly a setup for something much grander.
Don’t take this movie too seriously, walk in with an open mind, and you will definitely enjoy this film. Now, pass the popcorn.
